Lovely to be joined by the Chair and Vice Chair of Burntwood Town Council and the Mayor of Lichfield, Councillor Ann Hughes, who kindly took part in the shrub planting ceremony to kick off the launch.
Community members from Smalley Court in Burntwood and Lord Cromwell Court in Cannock, along with Leigh from Jefferies, and representatives Gareth, Lindsey, and Zoey from Housing 21attended the launch.
After participating in the shrub planting activity, the residents gathered in the communal lounge where Zoey from Housing 21 explained the competition categories to the residents. Jefferies generously provided a buffet lunch for the residents and hosted a complimentary raffle, where lucky winners received flower arrangements. Additionally, residents received poppy seed packets, as well as Cardo promotional bags and pens, which they really appreciated.
The gardening categories are:
- Best scarecrow
- Best hanging basket or planter
- Most unusual planter
- Most attractive main entrance
- Tallest sunflower
- Best Transformation
- Best garden arts and crafts.
- Environmental sustainability category – i.e. upcycling, attracting wildlife/pollenators etc.
- Winners: There will be an award for ‘Best of’ followed by ‘highly commended’. There will also be an overall regional winner for “InBloom 24” in Mid-West Region.
We look forward to joining some of the residents on Volunteers Day in May where we’ll be helping with gardening and painting of outdoor benches.
The competition will be judged during July 2024 with the awards ceremony taking place in September 2024.
